Design challenge

Being a designer, what can you do to improve the reception and integration of refugees in urban areas? This is the basic question of the global What Design Can Do Refugee Challenge, a design competition organized by design platform What Design Can Do, UNHCR and IKEA Foundation. Designers, artists and imaginative trouble-shooters from all countries and disciplines are all invited to take part. Register on the challenge platform to submit your idea.

What Design Can Do (WDCD) is an Amsterdam-based design platform that advocates the social impact of design. The current refugee crisis is one of the most urgent and complex issues of our time. It needs all the creative problem-solving that we can mobilize. The WDCD Refugee Challenge appeals to designers of all kinds to pool together their brightest, boldest ideas to help make a difference where it is direly needed; specifically refugees in cities, as 60 per cent of the world’s 20 million refugees now live in urban areas.

GMD student Peter Roden, currently undertaking his year in Industry on the Diploma in Professional Studies has been working in Holland and appears in the campaign call for entries video.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmkJaehMI14
